Dear SMU community,
This morning it is with great sadness that I share with you the news about the death of one of our own SMU students, Mr Fu Ying Jie, a 3rd-year Accountancy student.
Yesterday afternoon, Ying Jie was playing a game of frisbee at Bishan Park when he suffered a sudden and unexpected heart attack. Despite attempts to revive him, when the ambulance arrived he no longer had a pulse, and his death at scene was confirmed by Tan Tock Seng Hospital. As details are still being finalised about funeral arrangements, the Dean of Students office will later provide us with information and will also be coordinating a collection for Ying Jie’s family.
When something tragic happens in our lives – especially something so unexpected – it affects us very deeply. As a community, we have had occasion to share in many joys and triumphs. Today we share in the profound loss of one of us . It is important that we give one another the support that is needed in this time of grief.
I wish to extend my most sincere condolences to all of you on Ying Jie’s passing away, especially to his family and those of you who have taught him and studied with him and known him well.

Life has funny way of toiling with people. While it's the start of school for most people, it's the end of the lives of others. I hope that everyone out there feel happy i -- cuz they are definately still alive and should not be complainning. [ for one, i hope not to read of ppl complaining abt school]
Yup, life is fragile. although most of us expect to live up to the life expectency of 65 ... there are people who died at the age of 24. [yes, the same age as luke] Not very far from most of our age.
Death comes in the most unexpected way ... Are u ready to go if called? That's something u can't ignore -- unlike sms or phone calls where u can reject.
Well, I do know Ying Jie ... 2 years ago, i was doing BGS project with him. A nice person to download music with. i kinda of remembered how he would use my computer and down the silly girl band songs.
Hearing the news before my presentation doesn't seen to be the best thing ... [i was still wondering if this was a joke] ... Staring at his nick on msn. i guess it's going to be quite impossible to chat with him ... he has a nice nick though
To the world out there, it's another day. To some people, it'a lost of a friend. To others it's a lost of a relative. To some, it's a lost of a son. To one, it's a lost of a boyfriend...

It surely has been a while since all of us has last talked since our BGS, and it is to my greatest regret and shock that our group mate Yingjie has passed away. I have realized how important friendships can be for us; a simple neglect may result in a fact that we may never see someone again.
I won't be able to go down tonight or tmrw for his funeral/wake. I'm sure Meijun and Melinda probably will go down? Do let me know whether there is any contribution; i can pass it to you guys before any one of u head down. I thank you guys for this continuing friendship, and may we also continue to treasure all of our friends' presence among us.

as long as u have a breath, life is still yours. To keep or lose it.. it's up to you. Whether ur life is filled with regrets or not ... it's your problem. Remember there are people who died at 25 -- not every live till 65.
